Speedy Moisture Meter 

Using a speedy moisture meter, the moisture content of soil, sand and other fine grained material can be obtained quickly with reasonable accuracy.

The test technique is based on the fact that water will react with calcium carbide to form acetylene gas and the quantity of gas formed is directly proportional to the water present, leaving a surplus of the chemical used in the test.

The quantity of acetylene gas produced is indicated on a built-in pressure gauge which is calibrated in percentage of moisture on wet weight basis. A conversion formula gives the corresponding moisture content based on dry weight.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPEEDY MOISTURE TESTER 0-25% OR 0-50%

The speedy moisture tester comprises the following:

• Aluminium pressure vessel with clamp for sealing cup and a gauge calibrated in percentage moisture content. The dial of the gauge is marked 0-25 or 0-50 of moisture percentage on wet weight basis.
• Counterpoised balance for weighing samples
• Scoop for measuring absorption
• One bottle containing absorbent
• One cleaning brush
• Three steel balls of 12-5mm dia and one steel ball of 25mm dia
• Wooden carrying case
• One copy of Operating Instructions with General Assembly Drawing

INTRODUCTION:  Speedy Moisture Tester has been developed on the principle that calcium carbide on reaction with free moisture of the sample in a closed vessel evolves gas and develops pressure in proportion to the moisture content.

The gauge on the instrument is calibrated to interpret the pressure as percentage of moisture in the sample on the wet weight basis.

The instrument is portable and can be used for quick determination of moisture content (within a few minute) of materials in powder form viz. soi, sand, coal, pottery chips and other finely divided material.

Only 6 gm of sample is used and results obtained are within an error plus - minus 1%

Two models of Speedy moisture Tester are manufactured and supplied i.e, Moisture Tester is meant for measuring moisture in samples from 0-25% or 0-50% on wet weight basis in sample.

DESCRIPTION: The equipment is illustrated in the enclosed General Assembly Drawing. The sign of the arrow given against the components of the equipment in the description below pertains to this General Assembly Drawing.

It consists of an aluminium body fitted with a gauge at one end and a sealing cup at the other end held to the body by the U-clamp and a clamp screw with a 'U' ring between the body and the cup. The cup can be removed from the body by just unscrewing the the clamp screw and by swinging the 'U' clamp to the side.

The gauge is calibrated in percentage of moisture content on the wet weight basis. A balance is mounted on a base which is fixed in the carrying and swivels into position when the catch to the left of it is moved back and the base is rotated about the swivel pin. When the balance is thus set horizontally the same catch engages to keep it in the position.
